Discover Valpolicella wine region and its Crus

Three main areas, 13 different valleys, many sub-zones and Crus

Valpolicella is a wide and complex wine region.

Usually, international consumers and wine lovers are not used to distinguish from which part (or valley or village) of the Valpolicella appellation a wine comes from. Nor to identify different styles from terroir characteristics. They do drink brands, simply.

Now it is time to focus on the origins of Valpolicella wines. Because origin makes a great difference, here.

In this section, we wish to highlight how complex is Valpolicella appellation and territory.

The map

The digital representation of Valpolicella Crus we made on Google Maps Engine is based on the Enogea map (see below) and on some data we collected during our professional coverage of Valpolicella wines and territories. For some details about the general criteria used to design this map, please read the Guide for Readers.

This is an interactive map based on Google Maps Engine. You can move the map, zoom-in or zoom-out, or browse this map in a larger format, also on a mobile, clicking here. Place your mouse on every single area (on the legend at left, or on the map) to highlight valleys and sub-zones. Tick on legend to activate/exclude valleys and/or sub-zones views.
[the map is still under development for Eastern Valpolicella]

To create this complex map, we were inspired by a very recent work (Nov. 2013) done by Alessandro Masnaghetti, a very well known Italian publisher and wine journalist. Since many years he has been producing vineyards maps for his Enogea, the publishing company he owns, under the brand "I Cru di Enogea".
You can buy the "Valpolicella e Amarone" map here (paper version). There is also a digital eBook version for tablets and smartphones, "Valpolicella, crus and valleys"available here.

The map of Valpolicella Crus is

"an in-depth analysis of the appellation production zone and a proposal for the delimitation of the principal viticultural areas of the hillsides".

The color map has complete and deep presentation texts in English and Italian.
